RESCHEDULED-Every Gravestone Tells a Story: Images and Iconography In-Person

Have you ever wondered about the images or emblems on gravestones in a cemetery?  Join members of the Newport Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission for an illustrated presentation that explains what is carved into these stones and why the image was used. 

Presenters include:

Mary Jo Valdes. Mary Jo, in addition to being an HCAC member, serves and has served on numerous commissions for the city of Newport.  She is also the archivist for the Touro Synagogue.

Bertram Lippincott III. Bert serves as the librarian and Genealogist for the Newport Historical Society.  He has been a longtime guardian of our historic burial grounds and is one of the most knowledgeable people regarding the city and its history.

Jean Quinn. Jean serves as a walking tour guide for the Newport Historical Society and was an early advocate for our historic burial sites.

Leigh Schoberth. Leigh is the Preservation Policy Associate for the Preservation Society of Newport County and an active participant at commission meetings and events.

Free and open to the public. No registration required.
