Getting Started with your Family History In-Person

Genealogist and Librarian Heather Kisilywicz will talk about how to get started with researching your family history.

In this one-hour workshop, Heather will introduce the essential tools for beginning your family history journey, helping you avoid common pitfalls and frustration. The talk will cover basic terminology and key documents, ensuring efficient and speedy research. Learn valuable tips for organization and create a plan to uncover your ancestors.

Heather Pouliot Kisilywicz is a cultural heritage professional experienced in collections management, research, and education. She is the Principal at Ancestor Answers LLC, a consulting and research firm for historical societies, corporations, and private collectors. Previously, she was the Executive Director of the South County Museum.

She earned a master’s in library and information science and a Bachelor of Science in marketing from the University of Rhode Island. She is a member of the Society of American Archivists (SAA), the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), the Rhode Island Genealogical Society (RIGS), and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Heather was appointed by the State of Rhode Island Speaker of the House as a RI250 commissioner.
Heather is a frequent speaker and workshop facilitator focused on inspiring research using primary sources, digital preservation, and information literacy. She resides in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, with her three sons and her dog, Hugo. Lily, the cat, chooses to live with them.
